ABOUT MSO

The Mankato Symphony Orchestra has performed a broad array of concerts for Mankato audiences for 55 years. 2006 - 07 is the inaugural season for Music Director and Conductor Kenneth Freed. The MSO musicians are talented professionals, amateurs, and music educators from throughout central and southern Minnesota.

The orchestra plays five subscription concerts each year plus three Youth Concerts, and provides many educational and artistic opportunities to area students, including the Young Artist and Young Composer contests. In addition to the classical concerts, the MSO has performed with such groups as the 5th Dimension, Vince Gill and the Moody Blues. The MSO 50th Anniversary Season began in June, 1999, when the orchestra presented "Rockin' in the Quarry", a free outdoor concert of popular music. This unique concert, sponsored and hosted by Southern Minnesota Construction, drew a diverse audience of 5,000 people and rave reviews! It has now become an annual event.

An active volunteer Board of Directors governs the MSO and the Symphony is currently seeking new board members. To become a Mankato Symphony Volunteer, please contact the volunteer Board President or the MSO General Manager:
