Steve Davis
Been
with the MSO since:
1999
Hometown: raised in Manhattan, KS - now Madelia, MN
Education: B.A., Honors Computer Science, Gustavus Adolphus
College
My day job: Computer Programmer, AT&T
Earliest musical memory: One of my preschool teachers
brought in a violin. That day I decided that I wanted to play (my
mom said I had to wait a few years, and I started about age 7).
Other instruments I play: violin
Best part about being an MSO musician: I enjoy playing
music and doing something totally different from my day job. I also
enjoy the time away from the kids (aged 1 and 5) once a week.
What's on my iPod or in my CD player: A little bit of
everything - classical, country (especially Mark O'Connor), kids music,
light rock, hard rock, Christian music, new age... and podcasts of The
Splendid Table.
Other interesting facts(s): My wife saved all of her college Work Study money for two years and bought me my viola. I teach a little violin, because no one else in our county does. My wife is the optometrist in Madelia and plays trombone in the New Ulm Municipal Band.
Advice for young musicians: Practice really does help.
