Steve Dunn
Been with the MSO since: c. 1977
Hometown: Mankato, MN
Education: BA, MSU; BS, MSU; MM, UW Madison
My day job: orchestra teacher Mankato
Public Schools
Earliest musical memory: Dad telling me
to practice before I went out to play with my friends
Favorite thing about performing music: Satisfaction
in reading as high a level as possible
Other instruments I play: I teach all
of the string instruments, but only play competently on the violin
The composition I would most like to perform: Brahms
Violin Concerto (with me as soloist – ha ha!)
Best part about being an MSO musician: I feel
lucky to have ahd the opportunity to play all these years in an orchestra
right in my hometown.
What’s on my iPod or in my CD player: For
relaxation, I listen mostly to classic jazz.
Other interesting facts(s): I met my wife in the
MSO (I was turning pages for her and one thing led to another!)
Advice to young musicians: Your musical tastes change a long with everthing else as you get older – I couldn’t relate to “classical music” as a student but eventually came to love and understand it!
