The best of Beethoven, according to the composer himself. Who are we to disagree? Hear the drama and pathos of the Egmont Overture, Beethoven's magnificent Seventh Symphony, and an electrifying performance of his Violin Concerto by Steven Copes, the brilliant and electrifying concertmaster of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, in his Mankato debut.

Our eighth season opens with Barber's "Dover Beach", a setting of a poem of the same name by Matthew Arnold. Barber wrote this piece when he was just 21 years old. It continues with "Il Tramoto" (The Sunset) by Italian Violinist Ottorino Resphigi. The program concludes with Dvorak's Viola Quintet in E flat, which was written during his time in Spillville, Iowa in 1893. Dvorak spent just one summer there and composed "Viola Quintet in E Flat" as well as his "American Quartet".
