| Come kick off our 60th Birthday Bash with Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Peter McGuire brings a personal blend of poetry and power to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, an epic and sublime work. Mendelssohn’s journey to Italy promises sunny lyricism and joyful melodies. A brass fanfare by the late MSO Music Director Rolf Scheurer opens the season celebrating sixty years of beautiful music and connecting our future to our past. | ||

| Our Mankato Ballet dazzles in the Nutcracker Suite! Back by popular demand, Mezzo Eleda Blair and Baritone Kimm Julian will sing selections from Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and the old chestnuts roasting on an open fire, before leading us in the traditional sing-a-long. | Verdi’s eternally popular opera tells the tale of a conflicted courtesan, her devoted lover and his disapproving father. Hear singing actresses and actors from the Minnesota Opera’s Young Artist Program in the title roles in this semi -staged production featuring the Minnesota Valley Chorale and soloists. Kenneth Freed conducts the emotionally evocative score. | ||

Ravel’s Mourner’s Kaddish frames the sublime lyricism of native composer Brent Michael Davids who gives voice to the musical spirit of the Dakota people. Award winning composer Geoffrey Hudson’s Meeting Ground also finds new sacred space in the mix of northern plains pow-wow music with the symphonic sound. The Maze Kute Drummers, high school choirs, and Minnesota Orchestra Principal Trumpeter Manny Laureano will inspire. Finally, hear Dvorak’s hope for America in his uplifting classic, the New World Symphony.
