Paris, New York, and all that Jazz
The MSO season opens with a tribute to Jazz featuring pianist Fanya Lin for two beloved jazz-inspired symphonic works. For one shining moment, Ravel and Gershwin
met each other at a New York party in 1928, where they expressed their deep mutual admiration and passion for jazz. The MSO will keep that connection alive with lush performances of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major.
Rounding out the program are two works that explore the relationship between African American folk mythology and the world of concert music as Jazz emerges as a unique expression. The sound of the blues and African-American spirituals will transport you to the Roaring Twenties!
