The Mankato Symphony is pleased to present this curriculum provided by the Learning Though Music Consultant Group, (LTMCG) an organization whose primary focus is music integration and musical literacy among school-age children. LTMCG achieves this mission by creating interdisciplinary arts and music-centered self-sustaining curricula programs and services specific to the needs of individual school communities-one at a time. Music and the arts are recognized as one of the three literacies essential to learning. They maintain the numeracy languages of learning, which includes reading, writing, thinking, talking, listening, and creating. As a comprehensive resource that connects music to non-arts study, the Learning Through Music (LTM) interdisciplinary curriculum is informed by the National Standards for Arts Education, thereby providing enriched materials that allow teachers and students to achieve federal requirements as mandated by law. Each curriculum is written by leading educators in collaboration with school teachers, students and professional local community musicians. This approach promotes a deeper and lasting understanding of musical concepts, as well as an appreciation for the ways music connects to multiple aspects of living that extend to and encourage a lifetime of learning.
